Categorizing Your Opponents Part 2

Had a quite a busy week especially with the HK vs SG thingy.(I feel that I did not do that well that time but it's over liao le.This means that more training needed.:D)

Anyway, pls play tactics ogre especially you have a workable psp.Hahaha.It is really fun(provided that I can kill you since there is a multiplayer mode.)Sadly for now,I only have one person to play it which is Leslie but he pretty busy with digging sand for army.:P

Back to topic now.

How do you categorized your opponents?
(Imo,there is no absolute right way of categorizing your opponents. But it works for me hopefully it also works for you.:D)

1.Rushdown or Turtling
Before you go into playing the opponent, you need to know what your opponent style is.(Mostly I feel that people here are more of the turtling kind...)
You may ask why I said that.I notice rushdown players generally are more impatient because they want to get in to do their things. So if I know that guy is rushdown type,I normally play a more keep away game so that they cannot get in.
About turtling players, they tend to do moves that are relatively safe or low risk.Generally they look out for reversals more than anything.

2.Poh A LOT or Poh very little
Poh a lot-means lots of random reversal or ultra on blockstring, wakeup, frame trap and etc
Poh very little-vice versa
People who poh a lot you do your frame trap. One word:You fly up the sky and eat a fwd.hk and ultra.Advice here:Dun frame trap happy on him and bait reversal.Normally people who poh reversals got two kinds:
One got brain and the other dun have brain
The one got brain do reversal when they feel that you tend to do something a lot.(like after doing cr.mp for ryu,you like to go for slam or another cr.mp all those)
The dun have brain one just do reversals without considering that your pattern. They just do it.This one is easier to bait.:D
For those poh very little, you can do your frame trap or block strings more generously.:D

3.Level of understanding
It is the level of understanding of the game.
Why is it important to know this?
It is because too many people play the opponents like everyone has a high level of understanding of the game.In the end, they eat those moves that people who know a lot dun use one.
One of the best example for me was fighting a guile last time.I forget who I was using that time. But to cut the story short,I teo sweep to death by guile...That guile was moving back all the time and doing sonic boom and cr.hp and sometimes air throw. That was okay but when I was doing my sk pressure, sweep came out and I get hit by it.I became du lan and more especially when I was walking forward, sweep came out and hit me.
I feel that understanding your opponent and knowing their level of understanding helps to deal with them better.

So that is basically it for now.And get ready for part 3.

Categorizing Your Opponents Part 1

Before I start in talking today's topic,I would need to 'announce' that Xian has started a new blog.

So do support his blog, here is the link.
http://www.xiansf4.blogspot.com

Anyway,back to topic.:D

Reasons To Categorize:

In the past,I applies the 'same character tactics'.(Like applying the same gameplan and mindset to that particular character.)

For example, when I play with other sagat players,I applies the same gameplan and mindset like how I played with Leslie.

The result was disastrous.I teo uppercut like how many times Balrog do cr.lp and the Sagat just spam st.hk like how Akuma fight Sagat in Vanilla and I teo killed by that single move.

I also saw some people in tournament that they do well against top players but ended up losing to some players who is less skilled when they are using the same character.

The answer to why we lose is that our gameplan or tactics is not for that particular opponent. So how do we categorize the opponents?

This will be discussed in the next post.Stay tuned.:D

Random Rants

After some games with HK and Taiwan,I feel quite impressed but sad at the same time.Impressed by their spacing, matchup knowledge and gameplay.(They know bison st.hk and st.mk range and also knows way to beat it.)

The sad part I feel that there were some matchups that I really sucked at now. Some of the characters like good adon, fei long players which I deal really badly.(Like not knowing what to do...)Haiz..

Today was really tired. For a first timer who slept at 4.30am and had to wake up at 7.30am,it was really exhausting.(Though I did slept until 1 when I came back after the exams. Then after that,I went to the console session at orchard towers to practise against hk.(Anyway that was yesterday.)

So in the end,I opted to go to nex which was nearer to my house.:D
Played a few games with some random people and also against the toa payoh smelly gang.

Managed to also psycho Leslie to go nex and played with him for a while.Did okay against him lol.He win me 1 or 2 game more.:(

For Bison Players:
Smelly sagat players like leslie when trapped in corner like to do jump back hk when st.hk is out of range.
3/4 screen devil reverse teo hit out by balrog running low smash(Balrog armor breaker).zzz.

Ok too tired to write more liao.Tat's it.:D

Flame Data For Dummies

I going to talk a little bit on some of the more technical things rather than the adventures of Sherman or some Chronicles of M Bison.

Why do you read frame data:
1.To understand better each move's property
2.So that you can use that understanding and utilize technically correct move

Here are some of the things you see in the arcade:
1.Wah this person use Chun Li can super Balrog's dash punch.Somemore do from far leh.
2.How come Balrog cr.lp so much blockstun one?
3.How come sagat players dun use cr.hk?

The answer can be confidently said that the frame data answers such question.:D

So the question here would be what is frames?

Frames is technically game time.Just like in real life there is seconds, minutes and hours.Sf4 also uses the time factor.

Startup-How fast the moves starts.(For example,Ryu cr.lp startup time is 3 frames and Ryu sweep startup time is 5 frames. In here, you will notice that the smaller the value the faster the move starts.Zangief ultra startup time is 1 frames(Fastest).)

Active-It is the duration of the move.It is how long the move will last.(For example, you all notice Bison sweep animation is freaking long.U count to like 3 seconds and he is still sweeping. It has an active frames of 12 frames whereas bison cr.lk only has an active frames of 2 frames.2 frames would mean that duration is short and 12 frames would be vice versa.

Frame Advantage on Block
-It is technically how fast your opponent recover from blocking when you attack him.For example Ryu cr.mp frame advantage on block is +2.This means that when you do cr.mp(I mean that you are the ryu)and your opponent block, your opponent would recover 2 frames slower than you.

Frame Advantage on Hit-Almost exactly as the frame advantage on block but this time it is technically how fast you recover from getting hit compared to your opponent when he attack you.For example Ryu frame advantage on hit is +5.This means that when you do cr.mp(I mean you are the ryu) and your opponent get hit,he would recover 5 frames slower than you.And during that 5 frames, you can combo to moves that are 5 frames and below.

Chain-This moves can be chained to another moves. The negative way of putting it is that this move can be mashed. And some moves like Bison cr.lk cannot mash.:D

Special-Can be cancel to a special which means uppercut and hadoken or those.Cr.lp all those are called normals.

Super-Can be cancel to super

Tat's it.Folks.

HD recording

Anyway guys,I doing some HD recording of SF4 matches. So I would need ur advice like frame rate and the best device to record SF4 matches.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fbo5wgmqrw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tVBDAChphg

Problem here is the arcades here dun allow recording matches.:(
Hopefully I am able to record some of the matches in Sg like some of the top player's matches.
